A couple of you asked about the background of the person reading our recorded metta meditation this morning. Here’s part of the biographical blurb from the book that accompanies the recording: “Sharon Salzberg has been a student of Buddhism since 1970, and has been leading meditation retreats worldwide since 1974. She teaches both intensive awareness practice (vipassana or insight meditation) and the profound cultivation of lovingkindness and compassion (the Brahma-viharas). She is a cofounder of the Insight Meditation Society in Barre, Massachusettes, The Barre Center for Buddhist Studies, and The Forest Refuge, a new project for long term meditation and practice.”
The recording is from a course coauthored with Joseph Goldstein called Insight Meditation. Sharon Salzberg has written several other books, including a longer one specifically on metta meditation entitled Lovingkindness: The Revolutionary Art of Happiness.
